Crafting your leadership vision [next Power Friday workshop 6/20!]

Leadership Vision | Leadership and Vision | Rising Legacy

I’ll be honest — leadership isn’t always easy. These are hard days, even for the best leaders. And for multicultural women, the road tends to be even more complex as we’re often navigating systems that weren’t built with us in mind.

That’s why it’s so important for us to lead with intention and clarity and that starts with articulating our leadership vision.

Why a leadership vision matters

A leadership vision is your compass when the noise gets loud and when you’re being underestimated, overlooked, or pulled in too many directions. Without a vision, it’s easy to pour energy into roles, responsibilities, or relationships that don’t align with your purpose. But WITH a vision, you can move with clarity and confidence.

What is “leadership vision”?

Your leadership vision doesn’t need to be a five-year plan. It might start as a few bold statements:

  • The kind of impact you want to make

  • The values you refuse to compromise

  • How you want your people to see you

Your vision should anchor you, stretch you, and give you a north star to move toward.

Step 1: Reflect

If you’ve never written a leadership vision before, keep it simple (I know how easy it is to overthink!). Start by reflecting on some of these questions and keep it loose:

  • Who do you want to impact?

  • As a leader, you have influence… how do you want to influence people?

  • What attracts you to people? Write that down, because that’s the reason you’re a leader.*

  • What do you like doing? What are your favorite parts of leadership?

  • What legacy do you hope to leave behind?

*One of the things I want you to understand is that leaders have to like working with people!

Step 2: Sharpen

Leadership titles give people a sense of power… and for some people, that’s uncomfortable. At times, they say they’re not cut out to be a leader. But when you craft your leadership vision, you’ll realize that you can do leadership your way and bring an authentic you to your team.

Let’s work on condensing your leadership vision down to a simple sentence or two. Find a format below that inspires you:

Simple & Purpose-Driven

I want to be a leader who _____, so that _____.
Example: I want to be a leader who listens deeply, so that others feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Identity + Impact

My leadership is rooted in _____, and I’m here to create _____.
Example: My leadership is rooted in hospitality, and I’m here to create spaces where everyone feels they belong.

Affirmation Style

I lead with _____, because I believe _____.
Example: I lead with boldness, because I believe change starts with one person speaking up.

Future-Focused

The legacy I want to leave is _____, and every day I lead with that in mind.
Example: The legacy I want to leave is a path others can follow with confidence, and every day I lead with that in mind.

Values-Based Vision

As a leader, I value _____, and I’m committed to leading in a way that reflects that.
Example: As a leader, I value consistency, and I’m committed to leading in a way that reflects that — even when it's hard.

Think about this like you’re designing a future that reflects who you are, who you want to become, and what you want to leave behind. When you put your vision into words, you’re on your way to owning it and operating from it.

Don’t wait to do this!

It’s not too late to craft your leadership vision! Any leader will tell you these are hard days in leadership. But when you have your leadership vision statement written down (even a simple, single sentence!), you can touch it, feel it, read this meaningful statement and affirmation of who you want to be as a leader and go face the hard moment. It’s a powerful way to re-ignite yourself.

Reminder: You’re not here to play it small as a leader.

Let’s do it together!

We’re going to dig deeper into this and more in this month’s Power Friday. Join us on Friday, June 20 at 11am PT for a hands-on workshop where you’ll start shaping a leadership vision that’s authentic, grounded, and bold. I hope to see you there!
