Annalisa and I go way back—over 20 years! I kicked off my HR career in Learning & Development as a corporate trainer on her team, crisscrossing the United States to deliver next-level leadership workshops. It was fast-paced, challenging, and pushed me to sharpen my skills and truly perfect my craft.
More than just a team leader, Annalisa invested in me. She trained, certified, and championed me, giving me the space to grow into the facilitator I am today. And the best part? We’re still at it! Together, we create leadership experiences with purpose, designed to inspire impact across the globe. I’m thrilled to have her voice and wisdom in this space!
Say hello to Annalisa!
ASK Annalisa:
What's one value that's remained non-negotiable for you, no matter where you sit in the org chart?
Integrity. Full stop. Whether I'm at the decision-making table or advising behind the scenes, I've learned that integrity isn't just about doing the right thing – it's about doing it consistently, even when it's costly or inconvenient. It's what anchors me when organizational winds shift or when courage is required in the face of power.
What gives you hope about the future of leadership?
There's a quiet but steady reshaping happening, where leadership is becoming less about command and more about connection. I see more leaders willing to center empathy, own their learning edges, and make room for lived experience alongside metrics and milestones. That gives me hope. The next generation isn't waiting for permission to lead differently… and I'm here for it.
How do you discern when to stay, when to speak up, and when to walk away?
That's a lifelong lesson in discernment. I try to listen to both my convictions and my capacity. If staying allows me to influence from within without compromising my core, I stay. If speaking up feels risky but necessary, I do it – even if my voice shakes. And if the cost of staying becomes too high – emotionally, spiritually, or ethically – I give myself permission to walk away. That's not failure; that's fidelity to self.
What does it look like to lead with both strategy and soul?
It means refusing to choose between results and relationships. Strategy is about clarity, structure, and vision – but soul is about people, purpose, and presence. For me, leadership is deeply spiritual. It's about walking humbly, acting justly, and loving mercy (Micah 6:8), even in environments that don't always reward those values. When strategy is rooted in soul, leadership becomes effective and redemptive.
Annalisa, I’m so grateful for your mentorship and partnership over the years! Thanks for sharing with us.
PS – Have a question, but no mentor?
Send me your questions on LinkedIn and one of my mentors will be honored to address them in an upcoming post. 💜
