Leaders: Are community and connection part of your self-care routine?

We often think of self-care as something we do alone. A solo walk, a moment of quiet, a deep breath between meetings. And those things matter – deeply. But one of the most powerful ways to restore your energy, motivation, and sense of purpose isn’t solitary at all.

I think we need to talk about connection.

In a world where remote work and digital interactions have become the norm, meaningful relationships are so essential. A great conversation can remind us we’re not alone in our growth, our struggles, or our leadership.


Why community matters

We all want to feel seen, heard, and supported. And it’s not just comforting – it’s strengthening!

Here’s what I know a strong community can do for you:

  • Ease stress and reduce burnout
    Sometimes all it takes is one honest conversation to shift how heavy things feel.

  • Open up growth
    When you’re in community with people who see things differently, you gain new ways of thinking, and new ways of leading.

  • Keep you inspired
    The presence of others walking their own leadership path can reignite your sense of possibility.

I want you to think less about having a huge network, but about building the right one. Women who speak your language, hold your vision, and reflect your strength back to you.


How to build meaningful connection

Connection doesn’t have to be loud or performative. It can be a quiet check-in, a thoughtful message, or a moment of truth between two people. What matters is your intention.

Taking things deeper can feel intimidating, but here are a few things I like to try to build that connection:

  1. Reach out and share
    A simple “Hey, I’ve been thinking about this – what do you think?” can spark a great, respectful conversation.

  2. Start with the relationships you already have
    A quick voice note, a virtual coffee, or a five-minute check-in can go further than you think.

  3. Find circles that feel like home
    Whether personal or professional, seek spaces where your values are reflected and your growth is encouraged and celebrated.

  4. Lean into mentorship and peer support
    Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential. Let their confidence steady you when yours is still taking shape.


The gentle truth

You aren’t in leadership alone.

The most resilient leaders are not the ones who carry everything. They’re the ones who know when to reach out, when to ask for support, and when to simply sit beside someone who understands.
